Monica Lanier Poems

1.

Pull the trigger, shoot me as I run
From the phrases ricocheting from your mouth like a loaded gun
So you say I am nothing, nor will I ever be
Worthless and I am no one is how you just defined me
...

I'd rather be
One with a rebellious mind
Entwined in a poets rhyme
Going back and forth in time
...

Tumbling beneath the wings of destruction
I vow to let nothing, break my grind
I am gone shine, blow your mind
Accelerate before I decline
...

She is the adhesive that keeps it together
Tougher than leather
Unpredictable like the weather
Yet still, she is a sheer piece of heaven
...

This world is full of many different things
But never underestimate the tragedies it may bring
Life will present many different paths
Misgivings, frustrations and mishaps
...

"I AM"

Someone ask me who am I, and I replied,
I am the quiet storm armed with a perplex rhapsody
...

GOD in his exuberant splendor
Rendered, me a second chance
He outstretched his hands
Whispering my child, just trust and believe in me
...

I see you
A bountiful kinetic indigo blue
Beautiful affluent and alive
Do you see yourself?
...

Just because I love you, I look away
And try to dodge the pain you shoot each day
Wounded I find the strength to move on
Yet it plays in automatic rotation like a ole blues song
...

Big mama sings out loud and out of tune.
"Has anyone seen my walking shoes."
Them shoes have been with me when I had nothing to eat.
No roof over my head my home was on the streets.
...

11.

So let me shoot you with a simile
Like I am a bumble bee
Stinging you with my verbalistic floetry of poetry
Free falling willingly, crashing into reality
...

Troubled situations
Turn into turbulent revelations
So the blues has visitations
On the worst occasions
...

I am the daughter of the King
So be careful what you bring, into my territory
My father gives me all of the glory
He is the author to my story
...

Some say my mental is not gentle and I'm baffled
Dissecting emotions like a scalpel
See if you can capture
This whipper snapper
...

Dear Lord I Pray
Let me be a represenative for you today
Humble my spirit to be mindful of what I say
Touch my heart so I will know its okay to obey
...

Fly Fly High

Accept, affirm and aspire
To reach higher
...

Maybe it's something I am missing
As I listen to your preemptive premonitions
Wishing I could do it your way
But I can't, so i stray away alone
...

What is the purpose of you remembering my name?
When people are still living and dying in pain
Where the scope of hope barely remains
Where greed is submersed in one being vain
...

A tragedy so real, yet unforeseen
Swept through the streets of New Orleans
Desperation, confusion, and much despair
All hope has vanished in the air
...

Touch my hand, and understand
I am, a human
Created by the same GOD
Who created you
...

Words

Pull the trigger, shoot me as I run
From the phrases ricocheting from your mouth like a loaded gun
So you say I am nothing, nor will I ever be
Worthless and I am no one is how you just defined me
Take my sanity, toss it to the ground
From the sound of vowels and constanants transformed to nouns

WORDS

A tainted token of a spoken mass of negativity that grows
With pain so unbearable so, think as you let them flow
From your mouth, they scar, it is a proven fact
That once said you can never retrieve them to take back
Words are like a clock spoken every second on the hour
Be cautious they are deadly and holds so much power
