How again else
do
our eyes these
dauntless drops drum of sorrow
...

I have wept now these whole thirty long years
Dating from this very first day of your ever living death
Yours and our dearly beloved son’s
Hoping desperately that it was something really:
...

Ash is solemn sobriety
and
a birthlong cultivated contrition
...

Only Joshua's
incorporeal bowels
can
consume
...

Joshua says to be still
and know that he is god
only there's no knowing
as always with him
...

A woman's bosom's precipitous softness
you are inveigled into
is a suspect phenomenon
you do not know
...

Perhaps art
is only a tender attempt
in a moment of visceral audacity -
no more than a prenatally lame child's leaping
...

You will sit often with terminal tenderness
By the bed burdened
With your enfeebled father's ebbing mind and
Ponder the deranged debris: the ponderous
...

And now that the left hand
So virtuously and sublimely
Knows not what the right is doing
Has hell then been kept at bay?
...

And so you foundered
your way back towards
the anguished crossroads
...

You have only to ponder
that of all that immense number in the motley crowd
straining and shoving
purely at the peril of some soldierly whip
...

How many times will Joshua
shun
my sword and
blow
...

The morning mirror
Whose raw reflection
Films the frustrating futility
Of my continual cosmetic diligence
...

Only this lax little kiss
stolen
at an anguished niche
from a coveted lip
...

15.

My love-jaundiced eyes
Are intent on the moon
Because I see no celestial curio
Only her wild serene face
...

A feline swagger
poised
on stilettoes serpentine
as her loins'
...

Seed-suffused
sober chariot at dawn,
resolute with visions
of a bounteous night
...

Joshua's annual descent
vitiates his invisible ubiquity,
paved paths prepared,
proliferate the sublime scandal
...

Pituitary reeks of wrinkles
whose advent adverse
as a bad breeze
blows at your bare brilliance.
...

A waking night
shakes
my laden mind
with sluggish slumber;

In Memoriam Chinua Achebe

How again else
do
our eyes these
dauntless drops drum of sorrow
but that
we never really ever
know Joshua—
being
with us always—till the end of Time,
with us since that immemorial mutinous morning
when our visceral vanity
vies
for his sacrosanct ascendancy
and he by crass custom just jaunting, unsuspecting,
the length and breadth of Eden
stumbles
upon the debacled dethronement cowering aback the figs
at the solemn sound of his afore-friendly footfalls
later that oh noisome noon
whenceforth he
inscribes
our brow with sweat,
plugs
our heart with Alarm-clock
whose ever timely tick since
triggers
our diabetic dusk prompt
to drum
upon, then, our already sodden crust
an incongruous deluge
dauntless as these drops turbulent
from our eyes
hang heavy with sorrow?
