189. Robert Poem by Jaden Knight

189. Robert

Robert used to sleep in the churchyard every day
next to her tomb which he keeps so clean
she has been gone for 15 years
and yet he can't go very far from her

The local priest understands
the constabulary turn a blind eye
they respect this man who has fallen so far
they remember how great he was

Every night the his wife appears
standing on the tomb where her body lies
her transparent form holding him close
she takes his hand and years fall off them
making them young once more
under the light of the moon they dance together
until the sun comes up

When dawn breaks she returns to the tomb
and the years settle on Robert again
for him every night is wonderful
but the day is filled with pain

Then one day the priest found him
he had died just after dawn
a funeral was arranged and all turned up
he was put in the tomb next to his wife
as that had been their dying wish

That night they both arose
and cried for joy that they were together
nothing left to keep them apart
now they could be dancing forever

Robert used to sleep in the graveyard
next to tomb that he kept so clean
now he is no longer alone
he is with the one he loves so much
and none can separate them now
