Valentines day is coming
a waste of time and money
all that it seems to be
is a commercial lie
Shops are full of meaningless gifts
chocolates teddies and the like
people will buy them anyway
and think that it shows that they care
I don't celebrate it myself
my reasons are very clear
it's not because I'm heartless
I know better ways to prove my love
I don't need a special day
to tell the one I love how I feel
when I can do it all the time
Why just celebrate love once a year
when you can do it every day
why spend time looking for gifts
when you can spend your time more wisely
in the arms of the one who truly loves you
i want my chocolate! ! ! ! ! every day! but do i even get it on V. Day? ? fat chance! or is that chance of fat? ? i partially agree with the poet. but how many hours of how many days can one spend in the arms of the one who truly loves you? ? doesn't SHE have to keep busy cleaning the apartment, washing the diapers, cooking the food, and ironing? ? and doesn't HE have to go to a real job, read the paper, stop off at the pub, and watch boxing on the telly? ? but (sort of) seriously: there are probably a lot of people in China and elsewhere who earn a living packing chocolates and cutting out greeting cards; what would they do without V. Day, X-mas, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, and Halloween? ? yes, there STILL are birthday cards, anniversary cards, and condolence cards, but what about the overtime? and, admit it, Profanisaurus aka John, isn't it nice to have something to look forward to? and something to give men an excuse to flirt with cute shop girls? ? ? gotcha on that one! bri :)
