2 O' Clock Poem by Huseyin Abudharr Ali Diakides

2 O' Clock

At 2 o clock in the morning
When the darkness wraps his arms around us
I sit and wonder why it is as it is and has to be so
In a sea of despair we sit as our surrounding drowns us

How did we reach such lunacy, such chaos
Where we take comfort in pain as things wont get brighter
We fell gently asleep with utopian dreams
And were roughly awoken to a neo-liberal nightmare

So don't mind me if I run away and never return
Through the endless veins to the beat of my heart
Where can I turn when I can run but not hide
And the darkness still gives chase ready to tear all life apart

All land is stolen and all life is based on stealing anothers
For we are fuelled by the death of living things
We are peasants who fight to keep the system of our oppression
As it has us believing that one day we will be king

A very British American dream has stolen our common sense
Lost in the individualism of economic anarchism
Were atheism tells us there is no meaning to anything
So we revert to a crazed civilised barbarism

As we destroy the planet and our environment
And live trapped in a prison of our own making
The dark grey trees the lonely concrete fields
We are not meant to live like this but our sanity is forsaken

I want to run and run and never look back
But I end up only running in repeated circles
I want to get on my bike and cycle far far away
But to the comfort of depression I always turn too

So I make this vow I will never mature
I shall never grow up and stop dreaming optimism
To conform is a terrifying place to end up
I shall always be me and continue on this childish mission

To never surrender, I must free my mind
Even if the cost is all respect and to not be taken seriously
I shall fight for what I believe, fight for the right
And I shall continue to fight for this fearlessly.
