#207 So Little Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#207 So Little

“I feel so little. Please, hold me tight, ”
An angel speaks to me.
Why do I have to work tonight?
I should be with Amalie.
Ah, my heart is breaking now,
What comfort can mere words allow?

Think, blank mind! Find the words to say
To alleviate her pain:
Some hope, some comfort, something cliché,
Like mental Novocain.
“I’m here, my love, and always too.
Forever I will be with you.”

“I wish I could disappear
Inside your arms a while.”
I hear her speak, I feel a tear
Erase my feeble smile.
What a shame, what malicious fate,
Causing such a troubled state.

Think again, find words once more
To relieve her sorrow.
“Oh sweet girl, whom I adore,
Have faith in tomorrow.
For when it comes I’ll hold you near
And then we both can disappear.”

Though I wish I could give more to you,
For now my words will have to do.
