#399 Reminiscing Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#399 Reminiscing

I slept in as long as I could,
Then awoke and dressed myself.
I ate no breakfast like I 'should'
But took some change from my shelf.

The flower shop down the street
Would be my initial stop.
The carnations smelled fresh and sweet,
How you loved this little shop.

I walked seven blocks to the west
And wound up at your place.
I felt completely underdressed
But I had to see your face.

I had missed you with all my soul,
Craved being in your presence.
We talked about the thief who stole
Your youth and my innocents.

We spoke about the days of old
And laughed at our inside jokes.
We watched soft white clouds as they rolled
And you asked about my folks.

We spent all afternoon this way,
Smiling and reminiscing.
Soon the moon chased off the day,
I'm sure we mentioned everything.

We agreed the hour was late
And we'd talk another day.
Tonight resembled our first date
And ended a similar way:

There was a long goodbye and wave,
Wishing to stay a longer while.
I placed the flowers on your grave
And walked away with a smile.
