Years ago we had more standards
Respect we got taught everyday
How we must not cheek our elders
Or else there would be hell to pay
Parents taught all of their offspring
Good children were seen but not heard
Elbows must not rest on tables
And disputes, end with their last word
We all had our cuts, bumps and grazes
Today some would call them disasters
But we never rushed to the doctors
A quick wipe down often no plasters
I don’t think we’ve changed for the better
Dictators where once stood a man
Who don’t ask anymore they just tell us
Because someone said that they can
