.5. That’s Not Cricket Poem by David Threadgold

.5. That’s Not Cricket

The sky was full of vultures
Dry bones lay on the ground
A scorching sun was riding high
I stood there looking round

My car had sprung an oil leak
Its engine was quite dead
The vultures wanted fresh red meat
And circled overhead

My broken motor wouldn’t go
While steam clouds filled the air
I didn’t have a thing to drink
The vultures didn’t care

They flew round in a squadron
One looked me in the eye
I was getting really thirsty
Would they wait for me to die?

In my boot I found a cricket bat
I laid down playing tricks
And when the vultures swooped on me
I knocked them all for six
