6 Decades Ago Poem by ER Bron Chiong, RSW

In the present world of technology
six decades ago is outmoded
and deem obsolete by the young
but is that really is--
This depends from where you are coming from
your point of view may be different from ours
but that doesn't mean we're old fashioned
as long as you're willing to change is today's game

The generation I grew up with have colored televisions
and the neighbors can watch the show through the windows
Voltes V along side with Tom and Jerry are my fave kids shows
Combat, Man from Atlantis, CHiPs, Star Trek and Charlie's Angels considered the very best and never to be missed

Next came the cellphones and pagers we used
for fast communication lines and interactions
together with the VHS, BetaMax for videos
recording of events and movies watching
and the cassette tapes and recorders available
to listen to AM/FM radios and music of the Beatles,
Elvis Presley, BeeGees, Ray Conniff and the ABBAs

Kids may either read books like Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew
or play outdoor hide-and-seek and run to the mountain top
for fresh air and great view of the city-scape down beneath
we also do crafts like origami, sketching and coloring
eat our supper at 6PM and go to bed early with a smile
life is simpler then but exciting and challenging with much fun
we play and interact with each other face to face
eat and drink from each other's spoons, plates and glasses
without fear of dreaded sickness and viruses in our midst
except for the common colds, flu and cough that abounds

Considered the blessed generation that I am a part of
We eat fresh fruits and vegetables but never 'instant'
We brew our coffee beans and tea leaves in boiling pots
We make our own toys, play and share with each other
remained true friends with vivid old memories to recall
the last generation that understands and respect our olds
value the things we learned will be a legacy for us to pass
to this new millennial generation of high technology and pride
whose view of my generation as backward and ancient
