690. Ailesh Poem by Jaden Knight

690. Ailesh

For the last 99 years has Ailesh walked the land
sat on the throne for 78 as king
though he ruled with a firm and fair hand
he never was the ruler of his own dreams

He led huge armies into battle
against orcs, goblins and giant minotaurs
but no matter how terrifying the opponent
none of them compared to the nightmares he suffered

On the outside he was kind and happy
in fine robes of purest silk
only his eyes betrayed him
showed to all the ragged prisoner within
waiting for his time to get out

When Ailesh finally died everyone mourned him
but his essence rejoiced at its release
his spirit was finally free from its torment
of whatever the future would hold
