A Boys Promise - Poem by David Harrison

I'm searching for the boy who promised me,
Told me the world could not imprison me.
For he knew the future and all that I'd planned,
He had the path to keep it all in hand.
Becoming a man stopped me to stand.

I'm searching for the boy who knew the truth,
He had the innocence to claim the proof.
For he knew heart and all that it’s worth,
Told me the secrets to free the earth.
Becoming a man killed me at birth.

I'm searching for the boy who sang with soul,
With lyrics to open the heavens whole.
For he knew day and night with a passion,
Youthful exuberance was life’s only fashion.
Becoming a man killed that child’s passion.

I'm searching for the boy who promised me,
Told me the world could not imprison me.
For he knew the future and all that I'd planned,
He had the path to keep it all in hand.
Becoming a man stopped me to stand.
I’m searching for the boy.
