You told me you’d never leave me,
You told me you’d never go away.
But he stole your heart didn’t he,
When you met him again in May.
Till death do us apart,
Was the promise that you made.
With those words I gave you my heart,
And I thought this promise would never fade.
I always had my suspicions,
All those times you left in a hurry.
These ‘visits’ were like secret missions,
You said nothing but, “I’ll be at Sherry’s.”
I tried to convince myself, I did,
That they all weren’t just excuses.
All of the suspicions I had, I hid,
But it left my heart covered in Bruises.
Reading that letter was how,
My suspicions became more than mild.
All I can think about now,
Is if you’ll choose him over our child.

Love is a spiritual experience that affects us profoundly. It's whimsical and temperamental, coming unannounced and may leave without warning. A well articulated piece of poetry insightfully penned from the heart with lovely rhyme scheme. A good poem indeed. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
