A Call For Awakening Poem by Bishnu Parida

A Call For Awakening

Long back in early school days,
Teachers taught us how to behave well
To tell the truth and to hurt none
Parents back home advised,
Not to make violence and respect the elders
And to tolerate if some did mischief to us

Growing up we find, the world order
Is quite opposite to what we were taught
People are violent in pursuit of money and material
And are at daggers drawn for personal aggrandizement
Devoid of spiritual bliss, oblivious of moral ethics
Harboring hatred for each other
Human values have become redundant
Brotherliness, fellow feeling, truthfulness, honesty and integrity
Love and compassion, charity and justice
Are rarely inherent in human traits

Awaken O poets!
O leaders, O guardians, and O teachers
Spread the message of love and peace
Save the humanity from eternal damnation!
