A Child Passed By Poem by Jeff Bresee

A Child Passed By

Long pressing bears the weight
of the falling world around me.
Over tinsel days yet hollow years
has the growing spiral of downward fall
unwound before my eyes.
As my heart and mind have weathered,
and my soul and will have crumbled
bit by bit…

In sorrow to the step of un-kept time
and I, I have stood as if motionless -
looking on
while the blackening vines of ignorance,
and the tangled thorns of foolish greed
have smothered, as would seem, all before me.

And while have I sat, huddled in desperation,
seeking not but to continue on in mere existence…
a child passed by
and suddenly, I felt to leave all behind
and follow.
