A child's cry-no more nor less-
an alert and an alarum,
Just to imagine that one-a crashing dam-
is to embellish some horrid harm.
A shriek of goblined shadows
That flow into your heart,
Especially when that shrill cry
is from one who's still a part.
No longer are you thin and weak
no longer a twig or blade of grass,
But a scepter of anguished revenge-
and heartfelt plans-
with an anger that lasts and lasts.
One with a tremble like a flame
whose hot fire flickers alive-
but now is lame,
Your valiant heart wishes to strike out-
to ameliorate or retard your shame,
To destroy and strike out;
to scream and to shout-
if only you knew just who to blame.
