A Cry From The Gallows Deep Poem by Iman Sadikeen

A Cry From The Gallows Deep

From somewhere unknown
penetrated the rays of sunlight
the dreary and dark cell of hers
not darker than them, the ones
lacking humanity, no mercy shown
On her, a poor teenager she was
Eight harsh years it had been
What hopes had she then,
when she landed,
this fateful land?
And now facing execution
for what? She pondered hard
but nay, no word could explain.
A child she had been herself
convicted of murder of a child,
But how?
Who can be blamed
for her piteous state?
No answer could be gained.
For there he had arrived
the executioner prepared for the deed
her breath hastened, that be her last
lifeless now lay the girl, slain
her last thoughts, never shall be heard!
