a grain of sand
countless grains of sand
make a desert many deserts
once Sahara Desert was fertile wilderness
a human paradise habitat
once long long ago
a grain of salt

white shining in sun crystal grains

of salt
where once
an inland sea stretched
to the horizon
once swarming with fish abundant
life long long ago

these grains of sand
are scattered stacked
beads counting grains

of time who can trace

the imprint footprints
of early human inhabitants
in wasteland desert regions

dehydrated sands wind erosion erased

ancient footprints
long long ago
around inland

ancient seas

salt glistens
in the sun
but no past

imprint footprints

around vanished
lakeshores
can be found

wind erosion time has
whistled erased
human memory

of lush life once lived in these regions

past from present are separated
in dry dust sand grain time
sun scorching wind blowing

are past present
painting
a desert shifting

timeless portrait
