A Drifter Poem by Beth Culley

A Drifter

Rating: 4.8

There on a road is a man,
Chasing a dying dream.
He lives as well as he can,
But things are not what they seem.

Trouble is marked on his brow,
Eyes soft and sad shine out,
Determined, he once did vow,
But in his heart now is doubt.

Tattered and worn are his clothes,
The pack on his back is light,
But the full burden inside
Weighs on him every night.

Once friendships weren't just to revive,
Once he had family too,
Once all his hopes were alive,
Once he had dreams to come true.

But, oh! - how lonely and cold.
Time slips away like the breeze,
Now he's so tired and old,
With no one and nothing to please.

There now he sleeps by the fire,
There now his breath slips away,
There ends all his desires,
There ends all of his days.
