A Father's Pride? Poem by Chuy Amante

A Father's Pride?

When I'm big and grown
with kids far from home

Will I be proud of them?
Walking in Dad's steps!
a-hem...

Doing what's right!
Driving the right car!
Living in the Right neighborhood!
Going to the Right Church!
Hanging with the Right People!
Having the Right Job and IRA!
You know a Righteous guy!

Will they be my joy if imitation displayed?
or
What will I do, if another game is played?

What if my kid
is only a teacher,
married the wrong girl, with a different preacher.
Drives foreign crap, lives in 'the Hood'
with such a long list of should've, should, should...

What if I end up with a
Buddhist
A Christian
A Hindu
and a
A witch

Will I decide life sucks, is really a bitch?

All of this work, all of this time
and all of my kids
turned out to be swine!

This would be the case if I AM of Ego, always right! ~

But,
What would it be like, if they were my delight?

If there was no 'I' to be right, just love
and pure divine sight?

A Dad who is proud of all of their paths
not caring at all if none followed mine
Let them be eagles, I was the swine

Oh to have grand kids, Brown, Black, White and Yellow
Oh my joy! beyond words, not mellow!
Kids to teach me of more of the world
Kids, all types! To LOVE and to hold!

Just like science, all that's right will change
just live 50 years more, all will re-arrange

My 'Right' is not yours and my kids are not mine
Just love them now, let them be, evolve, climb...
