A Halloween Scene Poem by Joseph T. Renaldi

A Halloween Scene

Rating: 5.0

Halloween! Halloween! how many
Phantom tales are heard and eerie things seen?
A haunted house for the lightheartedness to enter,
Ghastly figures in weird costumes greet you there,
Psychedelic lights overwhelm the inside of the house
While creepy sounds create a feeling of terror.

Bats fluttered nervously in the crisp, night air
While coal, black cats with green eyes pass by.
Ghosts and grotesque goblins lurk in the shadows
As wicked witches on broomsticks are riding high.

An owl screeching redundantly in a nearby tree,
Dogs howling vehemently at the moon in the sky,
Cats hissing at the lit, carved pumpkin faces on display,
Strange sounds of nocturnal creatures are heard near by.

Pranksters startling elderly people out of their wits
By tapping on windows or pelting them with corn,
Soaping automobiles with the least amount of concern,
Prepared to perform mischievious acts until morn.

Yet, children with masked faces and unique attire
Go trick and treating to every neighborhood door,
Anxious to perform a rewarding and acceptable gesture,
And hoping to fill their large bag with goodies galore,
A traditional climax to a thrilling Halloween night,
Just as trick and treaters had experienced years before.
