A Hymn For Old Mates Poem by Terence George Craddock

A Hymn For Old Mates

Rating: 5.0

promise to think of you tomorrow night
when we have a Wednesday Night
barbeque outside in dark winter cold
with a 44 gallon drum cut open at bottom;
burning driftwood logs taken off North Beach
cut up with a good old kiwi gain saw
when the logs take assisted with a bit
of go quick oil or petrol the drum will;

glow red around over half the side
near the bottom give out a fierce heat;
as it did last night under the centuries
old pohutukawa tree and I will raise;
a beer to your names drunk straight
from bottle as a few bush bunnies;

and I enjoy a real fair dinkum full on kiwi fire;
