A Knock On Heaven's Gate Poem by Frank Adie

A Knock On Heaven's Gate

I stood in front of a gigantic gate,
Such as no mortal eye have ever seen,
And no mortal mind can imagine;
Knock! Knock! ! Knock! ! ! I tapped on the gate,
Who is there? Responded a raucous voice;
My name is Frank I muttered in fear,
Where are you from, and what do you want?
I believe I missed my way, please where is this?
Young man you are dead and this is heaven's gate,
Please open for me let me come in;
You must have to wait until we find you worthy;
I gave my life to Christ and I was a worker in my church;
Young man look to your left and tell me what you see;
Behold I see another gate, a huge black gate;
That is hell's gate, and if you must know,
Many church workers are in there as we speak,
And that is where you will go if your name is not in our book.

Get me the Book of Life the voice commanded
A rustle of paper ensued as I stood transfixed
What is that your name again?
My name is Frank, Frank Adie I repeated;
The rustle of paper continued while I was waiting;
So far there is no name like that, but there is one more volume left,
So you still have a chance, if your name is not there,
Then you will have to check the other gate
Lord Jesus please save my soul, I muttered a prayer
Prayers are not answered here young man,
You have all your years on earth to pray,
If you were not saved while you were alive,
Then you have missed your chance;
Fear gripped my spirit, as I heard these words,
Then came the voice after a long while:
Young man you are very lucky you made it narrowly,
The prayer you said this morning was what saved you;
If you had died last night, you would have been in hell,
A single word of prayer, can save your soul;
Hell is so full because mortals don't pray;
Come in my son, and welcome to paradise,
At this point I woke up, behold it was a dream.
