A Last Farewell

Rating: 4.2

Rose of Lancaster
Divine diva
My eyes fill
When I hear your voice
'Das Lied von der Erde'
Deep like the earth
Warm like the sun
Soft like the spring

A beautiful tribute to a wonderful voice. A teacher and very good friend of mine who sadly died many years ago was at one time Kathleen Ferrier's accompanist and he spoke of a magnificent voice and also a girl full of fun and laughter - unlike the public face!

A very deeply touching write, A. Educational, too, for an uncultured ignoramus like me! - 'Enjoyable' is not the right word, but a first class piece, for sure. t x

What a lovely, bittersweet poem this makes for one who has sung her last. I am not familiar with the artist, but if her voice is as you describe (soft, warm, deep - what lovely lines!) , she is worth investigating. A perfect little poem, Allie. Love, Esther : ]

One of my classical favourites. The many moods of Mahler, I often joke about; he, to the general populace, only had one mood, that of human misery, but what remarkable stylistic cohesiveness in his compositions. Given the angelic vocalisations of this divine diva, endorsed by the Parnassian High Council, the songstress, and Gustav's scores seem better than ever, and my affection for all things sweetly touched by the gods, apparently are that much more appreciated by those who garner more attention than I, though the better part of me may suggest otherwise. Some others have succumbed; they've decided to move on, and wonder why I don't join them? PH isn't exactly accommodating.

Lovely imagery in this heartfelt tribute Alison. You have made me want to listen to this recording. Powerful in all its brevity. Justine.
