A Letter To Poetry Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

A Letter To Poetry

When this note finds you in a page that is barren,
Empty of your beauty that seems to have been forgotten.
Devoid of your magic, imagery and metaphor,
You can be sure that your art's not what it was before.

For we love your enchanting words that can paint
In the canvas of our minds, pictures without restraint,
Flowing freely as the images are woven by the lines
Thoughts and feelings are like notes that a melody defines.

As we read you, we take flight and soar the galaxies,
For each poem is a journey of man's sensibilitites.
Boundless as the skies is the human imagination
And you, Poetry, is the art of that expression.

So in closing, here's a very sincere apology,
For those who dwell on basal stuff, try to call it "poetry",
Who try to mask their lack of value and expertise
By posting suggestive photos for the eyes to tease.

They're walled in by the same erotic themes that bore,
To catch the reader's eyes, that's what the photos are for.
To look like a poem, words and lines are merely set
Those are writings we ignore, just things we forget.
