A Life Of Lies Poem by Victoria Revier

A Life Of Lies

The figure of my past subsides into darkness
All of my memories saturated
The trivial feats still to overcome
The falseness of the love
This once ruled over my shallow heart
Oh for a moment of shining joy
Oh for a moment of pure life
The past is ablaze
I look at my past and see it in an ashy blur
The fire gnawing away at my soul
I wonder how I ever lived without this clarity
But then I look a bit closer and see the smoke remains
Sometimes I worry this smog will never leave me
More often I worry it will
Never mind the thoughts of birds from my past
The beats of wings that still pound in my heart
For I know who my father is
Shine but never overcome
Son of the sea
