From a tender twig
To a grand old oak—
Worn and gnarled—
Covered with dangling moss.
The road between
is long and winding
‘Pon whose sweet,
Tender branches
Time's tempest
Often toss.
Betimes, the crafty elements
(Sun, wind, rain. frost,
Dew, snow, sleet)
Prove cruel in its manipulation
By years to rule and erode
The grass under feet.
