A Lonely Christmas - Poem by Billy Loving

Growing older and older
As it becomes colder and colder
Leaves on the ground
Winter all around
Frosts icy glow
Awaiting the first snow
Time for celebration
Time for resignation
Holidays on the way
In preparation everyday
A time for joyfulness
As I stare at the bareness
Grass ceases to grow
Geese left long ago
Somewhere south they reside
Awaiting the coldness to subside
Retort of a gun
Time for winter fun
Deers moving here and there
Hunter's careful stare
Sights aimed
Animal lying there, maimed
Life from the body slips
As the blood continuously drips
A time for reaping
Meat he's keeping
Endless cycle of life
As he stands there with the knife
Hurried breath
Another death
Harvesting of the meat
Cycle complete
Furnaces familiar sound
I feel it's warmth all around
Another year come and gone
Time only lasts so long
