A Lower Burn - Poem by Rabe Shultz

it came suddenly
it wasn't expected
but sought after for as long as I can remember
and now that it's here
it seems dimmer than expected
which is strangely comforting
it is a candle
not a sun
which means that I can carry it
I can touch it to wicks
and sticks
and walls
and watch it spread
