A Lullaby For Thomas Poem by Adrian Antique

A Lullaby For Thomas

slowly flutter and close your eyes little one
our night whispers are turning into a song -
let me gather you in my arms
rest here where you belong …

remember when you were new and small
and in tears you learned to smile -
mama kissed your tiny hands
as I embraced you in a pile …

gently I smoothen the linen you strongly hold on to
and then watch you twinkle a bit -
I hold my breath for a moment
until I feel your settled feet.

dreaming of the yesteryears maybe at near dawn my son?
you may be seventeen now but I saw you brush a tear -
this rainy morning before you've full waken up
I shall be here when you have fear.

peacefully snuggle your head between my palm and chest
listen to the music within me in my heart -
I shall forever sing you this wonder I feel
and the miracle I can never ever part.

today I can no longer carry you for my strength has begun failing
but the song of your sleeping is still very much alive and longing -
every evening your spirit seeks the sun's rays instead of our moon light
lay down beside me and let our memory's melody take flight.

love then is this newborn baby cradled by the father
and a young man seeking adventures and his own roses ever after -
one person, one gift borne by his great ocean wind and mother
one sunset, one sunrise sprinkled with the colors of our rainbow flower.
