A Man Of Little Consequence Poem by Michael J Williams

A Man Of Little Consequence

He was a man of little consequence, who could be easily pushed away,
not like the great important men whose opinions never sway.

Life is hard for great important men, much harder as their importance grows,
Unlike the lives of little men, whose path is paved with gifts a higher man bestows.

The man of little consequence lived as quiet as he could exist.
He tried not to disturb important men, who give work, that little men subsist.

He toiled in his little way, the way unimportant men toil, to please.
He loved his unimportant family until his inconsequential life did cease.

When Heaven saw the man of little consequence standing at the gate,
the multitude wept tears of joy that he escaped a great, important fate.

You see… many important men deceive and plot, whereas most little men faithfully follow rules.
The difficulty of important men is not their important lives, but their unimportant deaths,
…poor sorry fools.
