A Mortgae, Kids And We Hadn'T Even Kissed - Poem by Not Long Left

I looked into her pretty green eyes
as I held her slender smooth hands
Her smile, sweet as it was couldnt
hide what I was seeing.
The two of us in some nice
white walled house, screaming
at each other as a child clung to
her grey baggy leggings,
wide eyed and whimpering.
Startled I moved back, so to
avoid her sweet tempting breath.
Not asking this time whether she
wanted a drink i made my excuses
leaving behind a life, and bypassing
a possible future.
Returning to my friends we watched
the world spin on, as Morrison
in all his prophetic wailing worried
us as little more.
Even the sweat droplets that fell
from the smoke stained ceiling
bothered me where once they
cooled this heated head, now
they fell like painful reminders of
a fading youth.
The pretty green eyed girl soon
slipped out of the doors with a
young man in hand, if only he had
seen what I had seen: is the sacrifice
of a life for a short session of sex worth it
I thought. Turning back to the ocean
of dancers on the floor I made no
more eye contact that night.

Interesting glimpse into a dream/nightmare future possibility. No looking back/forward either. Reminds me of dreams I continue to have of 4 kids and a house and still not married. Who else out there dreams that I wonder? Good to read you, Vincent, recommended to me - and rightly - by Gina O. - Linda (Report) Reply
