In India long, long ago,
The King of Jodhpur sent men to
Cut down a forest of trees so
Building a palace he could do.
The Bishnois villagers did hug
The trees so as to protect them.
But the King's men did only shrug,
And by violence did condemn
The villagers by axe to die.
When the King learned this, he forbade
Cutting of any trees nearby
Graves where the villagers now laid.
Original tree huggers be
Remembered throughout history.
