A New Prime Minister Poem by Andrew Wilson

A New Prime Minister

So, It's goodbye Boris
Hello to Liz
What will she have in store for us,
Maybe a little more showbiz?

What will we make of this change
Much to do in these tough economic times, certainly content for one or two rhymes
Will there be thought through plans for the longer term
Or will there be more policies to make us squirm?
No doubt there will be the occasional U turn…..

Despite anti royalist views
Liz did not meet her waterloos
Yes, the Tory Party chose her
Above cool calm dishy Rishi Sunak
You really have to question why the people don't revolt
So brazen are the lies we're told

His claim to take time, leave taxes alone
It did not go down well, in the latest Tory crime.

Liz gained momentum and became the only choice
Rishi was ignored, just listen to Liz's voice!

She won the party contest, almost a one horse race, the euphoria was apparent, a wide smile upon her face

Two days later, the Queen did pass
A solemn act commenced,
The formal processions, the age old pageantry
Different views far and wide on what this meant to you and me.

Within one week, the urgency felt
A mini budget, that soon would melt

Bold decisions made and then reversed
I'm beginning to think that this country is cursed

The markets are in chaos
The money that people have lost
Confidence so low, what will be the final cost?

Britain weaker by the hour, I'm so hot and bothered, I need to take a shower!
Are we just a rudderless vessel
heading for the rocks and shipwreck status
As we head for another hiatus

Covid will now come again
a winter of discontent
Millions of people unable to pay the rent

Energy prices going through the roof
Yet the party leaders seem so aloof

A spiral of destruction, this titanic vessel sinks
Something must be done, that's what everybody thinks
