A New Year? Poem by dave lessard

A New Year?

Rating: 5.0

I knew that you would come,
we've been waiting for so long;
to see your face, to hear your voice,
break out its new found song.

We passed the time by watching,
the seasons come and go;
but you were right on time,
you always are...you know.

What have you for us this year?
something new I hope;
with the killings and the violence,
it's very hard to cope.

Corruption knows no boundaries,
it's prevalent everywhere;
I get this sense inside me,
many people do not care.

Man's inhumanity is gross,
we ruin almost everything;
will this year be any different?
what will tomorrow bring?

Time marches on, the year changes. But will our hearts be changed? May the corruption and inhumanity cease. May we become tolerant of each other's differences. May love replace hatred. May sharing replace greed. Then we can truly declare a happy new year. Your poem gives voice to the concerns many of us have. Well written, Dave.
