A Person Once In Wild Wilderness Poem by Mohammad Younus

A Person Once In Wild Wilderness

A person once in wild wilderness,
And now, in constant divine remembrance!
I like to sit and watch!
A life of contentment lead!
To Satan's temptations pay no heed!
I just trim off the thorny weeds of nafs;
And sow the plants of peace and love;
Mostly I do smile and rejoice.

As the Rose garden blooms within,
I breathe the fragrant breeze,
Producing the sound of long hu,
Connecting me to my source,
From where the stream of my life flows,
And calms down my violent rebellious mind.

It is now rather easy for me,
To wear a musical crown!
The divinely music has mellowed me,
For I now clearly know,
What is truth and what is false.

I ignore the calls from my vile nafs
For my spirit is very strong,
In retaining its hard gained contentment;
All the while when in perpetual zikr,
I am merry and happy,
Bubbling with spiritual ecstasy.

In myself, I am quite happy;
I do not company of damsels need;
But I am equally content to mingle,
And to meet the people of knowledge;
It has taken me years to escape,
From the Labyrinths of my evil mind;
Yes, it must have taken me eons,
To reach this mellow stage.

The years have been a challenge,
To rise up and be a true and sincere,
Lover of my Lord;
I am just what I am! Yes, I am only what I was!
When my creator took a pledge from me,
On the Day of Alast.
