A Poetic Affair Poem by Melanie Emikohe

A Poetic Affair

Rating: 5.0

we could splurge on holidays
of poetic flatteries
bathe in raindrop cool metaphors
suffice our resting eyes with imageries
curling and intertwining syllables
hearts' true flavors

we could align our lounge chairs
rub our feet on the sand
as we follow the descent of the sun
merging captivated images
of dusk's immortality
on a piece of paper
where our signatures meet

but life is not scribed
with hollow words of unlimited editing
we rotate in a cyclic machinery
to serve our daily dues
like thumbmarks we leave
on dusty windows
tactile reality is a collection
of trails we scatter along the way

poetic affair is a free vacation
at a tropical beach
mocking the bleak tenement
and squeaky old bed frame
away from the alarm clock
that reminds you
you did not die in your sleep

it is untouchable
ignition in the dark
that you can put out easily
by dumping sands of new thoughts
that fall freely on a draft
a beautiful camouflage
to hide your tracks
from your eyesight
a terrain where one's truth
is lived in a daydream
