A Quiet Place Poem by Kondwani Simwaba

A Quiet Place

A QUIET PLACE
I want to be at a quiet place!
I want to watch as the sun is engulfed by the nudity of dusk; I want to listen to the sound of nothingness just for fun, at a place where the clouds run as if to make love to mountains.
So when they say grab life by the horns, I would rewrite the idiom and grab it by the tusk; and when my time comes after old age warns, they will build statues for me in many forms with ink oozing in perpetuity from these fountains.
I want to be at a quiet place!
Where life is lived each day as it comes because everyone understands that it's not a race; but if you meet the baker first while we still beg for crumbs, then we will accept whatever comes and applaud you.
I want to be at a place with no mirrors so I could stare at the body of water just to remember my face; standing in that one particular space that reveals my good side so I'd never have to skew.
I want to be at a quiet place!
Where I could hear each and every thought loud and clear as they are promulgated by my cranial box; so I could transcribe whatever tears into my poetry.
In my lonesome, I want to paint the skies in my skin tone with my sleight however faint because a social life is but a hoax; call me quaint, but those with a myriad of friends live in but glorified puppetry.
I just wanna be at a quiet place, alone and with nothing but my Poetry…
