A Role Reversal (Fun Poem 137)

Rating: 5.0

Woke up this morning
and put my wife's red dress on
as she put on my suit.
Sounds a bit wacky,
but it happened that way,
and this all occurred
because a fairy sprinkled
magic dust in our hair.

We were arguing how hard
both our lives were
when a fairy suddenly appeared
and sprinkled magic dust in our hair,
and then she told us our roles
would reverse in the morning.
She then disappeared
within a blink of an eye.

My wife went to my job,
while I did hers
with neither of us knowing
how long this spell would last.
The first couple of days
went quite well
as we settled ourselves
into a routine.

By the weekend though,
we wanted our own roles back.
However, the fairy never
reappeared to break the spell.
It all started
to look a bit grim
and we both wished
we had never asked for it.

A second week began
with both of us looking
as miserable as sin,
when there came a knock on the door.
Opening it there stood the fairy,
but now she had no wings.
She came in mumbling
and tossed her hands in the air.

Fairy dust flew this way and that
as she passed around the room
mumbling strange sounds,
and then she fell asleep on the floor.
My wife and I felt a tingle
as the fairy began to snore
and slowly the night ended
and dawn broke once more.

With the waking of the sun
the spell was broken
and we were back
to the way we were before,
and the fairy grew back her wings
as life was back to normal again. \It was no more wishes
for my wife and I.

As for the fairy
she never wants
to become human again.
The moral of this tale
is be careful what you wish for
as it might not always
be what you wanted.
