A Rose Poem by Leslie Alexis

A Rose

Yesterday I saw a rose
Along the desert bed,
sprayed with rocks and dust
Its petals flickered red,
Like a ruby in sand.
I dropped my bag and sped
To hold it in my hand;
Because of it my eyes bled
My tears upon the land;
then a smile quickly spread
and took the tears away.

I'll visit my rose tomorrow
And every other day.

Yesterday I saw a rose,
Along the desert bed.
Its petals flickered red.
Its life made me glad.
