A Shot In The Dark Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

A Shot In The Dark

A shot in the dark
- - - - - - - - -
Bosom they were
A fleet of five happy
In a hotel flocked together
To eat, drink and be merry
At sundown- a fellowship so rare
Elegantly seated on the courtyard
A table beside where
Game of cards
They were playing
With fun and pleasure
Evening sky propelling
Summer dreams
Adding more jests and gleams
And the stars
Gently seizing the whole expanse
And the ivory lady not yet ready
To show her sweet countenance
When came a call
Be ready I am coming
To take you to her land
Where you can sight the moon
With my presence on
A ritual she was not to miss
And she looked engrossed
Distributing cards to fellow beings
When she was seen stooping
Unto the table low
Still and unmoving
With a bleeding head
Frightened she was carried
To a hospital only to be found dead
Doctors had a version
That stunned all with suspicion
She was shot at-how and when
None could lay eyes on
The bullet that pierced her brain
Unaware of the presentiment
Conceded she to her beckon
To be seen lulled in her nest
Confused between earth and heaven
Succumbed to her wishes at last
Unpredictable I am always my dear
Sorry to strike you at your leisure
For I am born
To obey only His order
Lest my honesty suffer.........

The unexpected can always happen in life....! God's messenger may come at the most unexpected venue at the most unanticipated time to take us to unseen lands.... We can never say 'No' or delay our journey for some more time... A fine write on the unpredictability of life! !
