A Singletree Without Leaves Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

A Singletree Without Leaves

Youcome late and disappear
leaving me to babble like a brook.
To showyour face once a day
and share a glance, you don't want.
Searching you here and there like a radar
My eyes feel raddled and lose the hope.

Am I a raft like Kalaignar to save you
Whenyouaremisled into thesea
of ignorance and treachery?
To walk throughthesylvan retreats
with thee, the sylph slinging over my shoulders,
To ramble on the beach in a cool evening,
To have you at my rear on an Enfield bike,
To take you in a boat the mist - covered lake
To take bath with you in an afternoon
herbal cures offering Surli-Falls,
To fly with you as a pair of birds
Into the remote corries of the sky,
To race with you when you're in your swift foot,
To smilewith you in all heavenly splendour
Without cares even in scaring mares
To swim across the calm river with you,
To make you surfeit with my lovely treats,
So many, so many desires I had to fullfil.
But everything turned into lies
And I stand a single tree bereft of leaves.
