A Single Glance Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

A Single Glance

O, you boys! When shafts of light
beamed from the beady eyes of the girls,
you duck like our batsmen and go unhurt.
How could a single glance
make you fall or tall in life?

When you have no ATM cards,
the miracles of those wanton snares,
end as mirages doing nothing.
How could a single glance
make an empty hand to go to royal cafes.?

The teen aged boys need some counsels
for ignoring those glares and flares
as the girls like the West Indian fast battery
unsettle, shake and stumble
and divert them from their goals.

Some cine-stars in football stadiums
went half denuded as their glances didn’t serve
to speed up the pony-tailed and the bald forwards.
Their fortunes were marred at once with yellow cards
as they booted not the balls but the shanks and heads of the foes.

Can the missiles of the starry eyes move the sails
of the ships loaded with prudence and stinginess?
Can those raging rays run riot
in the veins carrying waveless blood?
The weak minds get derailed by the lances of the glances.

When the flying kisses and miscalls
uproot the strong trees grown from the holy seeds,
it is hard to rein the emotions and ward off,
the unsparing stares and wares of the teasing eves.
Lo! Tighten your heart strings to keep you off that blaze.
