A Slice Of Life In Movies Poem by Doris Cornago

A Slice Of Life In Movies

Movies entertain because we see our life in them
Or hope to see ourselves in that position
A hunter in a video game taking
Down the enemy with
A laser gun
Peering
Down
Lives through
An open window, inside
Bedrooms, how to make love
Did your parents teach you how, but
Movies do, a lot in fact of our opinions come
From movies, a slice of life we thought that's normal

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A man who was in deep depression told me he watches movies to get away from himself, which bothers me. Movies are not moral guideposts, they are a showcase of what a human heart and mind can do without guidance, in the name of art. Although there are classification and censorship boards for movies, movie fare ranges from feel good to deranged. So, when one wants to get away via movies, does he know he is opening himself up to greater danger?

I imagine movies are like books, you can become lost in the dialogue, violence, seduction or action. I believe books have a deeper effect than movies because you can stop and contemplate what you just read. Movies just keep moving along. Enjoyed your thought provoking poem.
