And When Grief Comes Poem by Doris Cornago

And When Grief Comes

Rating: 5.0

Just when you feel perfect, got it all
You're scot free, inconsequential
Matters don't touch, discomfort
Irks, upset you, need no one
Here it comes, unfamiliar
Loving is frightening
It makes you hope
Beyond hoping
And when
Grief
Comes
Heartbreaking
Defeat stuns, makes
You want to give up, but
No, love reaches out touching
You, and you come in again, fearful
Of nothing, grateful for the company of those
Who love you beyond defeat, beyond fear, or death

For all who's frightened of loving a friend...

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Love is the willingness to lay down your life for your friends. I did not understand this at first, but when I was confronted with this choice, I knew then what love truly meant. The highest requirement for love is the willingness to put your friend‘s happiness before your own, simple as that. If you have such a self-effacing friend, you can defy the whole world.

The responses were overwhelming, more so, the generous reflections on the poem. This is true friendship among poets. May we never run out of poems to lavish on one another. For this poetic flush, I have my own true friend to thank, forgiving those days when I'm crabby and unpoetic in satiric prose.

To lay down your life for a true friend! Both the definition of a true friend and true love. Eloquently depicted in this excellent poem. Doris, Congratulations on a very well deserved Poem Of The Day!
