A Sonnet On Canada Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

A Sonnet On Canada

A sonnet on Canada
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
It was a wintry night when the night sky
Had the starry constellation, Ursa Major,
With the Big Dipper facing towards the earth
The moon shone with its moonfaced beauty
It was snowing and the winter's chill was upon Canada
When the thought came to my mind that to be warm and well fed and happy
As we mostly are in this beautiful nation of ours
Is a blessing which is worthy of the race of humankind
But as it is wont to do so, Canada has fought for justice and equality and kindness
And all other wonderful sentiments that speak of the joy of a summer's day
If prosperous is the air we breathe then it is because we struggle and strive to make our country so
God may have wandered around at some time and visited this nation of ours
And felt the touch of the heart's beat which pulsates and vibrates
To the music of the Canadian people who are enriched by the four seasons that God has granted us.
