A Stroll Through The Field Poem by Marilyn Lott

A Stroll Through The Field

Rating: 3.5

It was sunny on the morning
Not so long ago
When down the road I went
I thought I’d take a stroll

The lake was blue and clear
A pleasure to behold
I smiled upon the view
Until I saw a nightmare unfold

For just ahead and to the right
Was terrifying for me to see
A huge and vicious steer was there
So I ducked behind a tree

The horns upon the animal
Were wide and long and strong
And even though the view was great
I did NOT want to stay too long

The horns upon this handsome guy
Were the size you would not believe
Oh Lord, I whispered softly
He would make a wrestler grieve

He came closer and there I was
My heart just seemed to stop
Maybe he won’t see me I thought
But my heart did a steady flip-flop

As he came upon my hiding place
Our eyes were locked together
What started as a pleasant day
Had changed just like the weather

His skull pressed right against the tree
He winked as he rubbed his head
Then to my relief I realized
He wasn’t wild but a pet instead!
