A Structure Like This Poem by Mark Heathcote

A Structure Like This

A structure like this has a living presence
Even as a relic punctuating the air.
It has existed so long, it is going nowhere.
It may look dilapidated.
But who's to say what does or doesn't go on there?

Ancient ruins like these ont leurs propres histoires.
Their tragic heroes their Romeos and Juliets
Having foundations buried deep in history
Its demise is an indication of movement.
Of a change in our core values.

A structure like this that is so monolithic
And has heard so many unanswered prayers.
Requires one of its own to survive.
Its cocoon casings are not made of hardened silk.
And haven't been given wings to the unknown.

But it is something a man must scale.
Or abseil to progress.
If he's looking to tower walls
And find his butterfly princess.
