A Terrifying Experience Poem by Namita Rani Panda

A Terrifying Experience

The motionless body was slid into the tube
As if a hapless chick placed in a crate and transported on a rough road
To a land unknown
Utterly claustrophobic
Jarring and rattling all the way long,
The body was motionless like a carcass
But the chicken hearted heart was beating fast
Like the drum beats in the funeral procession,
As if a terrified civilian hidden in a bunker
From where he can hear
Only the deafening buzzing of the gunfire
The boom, boom, boom of the guns banged quite closer
The bullets hitting perfectly their targets.

Then the stubborn soul struggled hard to sit in meditation
Being oblivion of the mundane hustle and bustle
Rhythmic beats of a drum were heard from a distant temple
Aum, aum and aum only filled the air
When a sweet voice awoke me from my reverie
" Madam, please get up. Over is your MRI."
