A Vacation In San Rafael Poem by RIC BASTASA

A Vacation In San Rafael

it is comfort
riding a brand new
taxi
63 kilometers east
of puerto
prinsesa

the driver sounds
honest
driving carefully
wishing to
see his three kids
grow into
maturity as he
becomes another
old man
in their town in
aborlan

i am escaping
from a humdrum
like a whistle
from a
tea pot

from the glass
window
i saw mountains
dressed with fog

the rain
starts to pour
heavily
and we could not
hear each
other
since then

i've seen
intestines of this
road

'it is dangerous'
he said.
